A Working Kitchen, Not An Idea.
Every week, volunteers and staff cook hot meals in this kitchen and load them into cars. They go out to shelters, senior centers, community events, and Meals on Wheels runs across Metro Detroit. No one is charged, and no one is asked to prove they need it.

Shifts run a few hours. You don't need to know how to cook for two hundred — someone will show you. Tell us what you're up for and we'll find you a spot.

A Soup Kitchen You Can Rent.
When we're not cooking, this licensed commercial kitchen is available in four-hour blocks — to families cooking for a wedding, community groups feeding a crowd, caterers who need overflow space, and food businesses that need licensed production. Every hour booked pays for meals.
A private event, nothing sold Your own family, a closed gathering, no money changing hands for the food.
No food license needed. Just the three above. A one-day event liability policy is usually the simplest way to cover the insurance — we'll point you to one.
A public event or fundraiser Including food you give away free. Nonprofit status doesn't exempt you.
Temporary license from Wayne County. Inexpensive, but apply at least 30 days ahead — an inspection is required, so late bookings can't be made legal.
Selling to customers Catering, farmers market, retail, wholesale.
Your own current Michigan food license. Plus a ServSafe Manager certificate. Our license covers Eternal Light's operations and does not extend to your business.
